From one spool to the next

A small tool.
A smoother workflow.

01

Read the details.

Tap to scan. See the material, color, temperatures, and filament details stored on a supported spool tag.

02

Make it your own.

Copy a scanned profile or start from a material preset. Adjust the color and settings for the filament you actually use.

03

Write. Reuse. Repeat.

Write your profile to a compatible NFC tag. Save it to your library, ready for the next spool.

Your filament, a little more organised.

Keep a good thing going

Your shelf.
Ready to reuse.

Give your filament profiles a name and keep them together in one searchable library. Load a favourite, adjust what you need, and write it again.

  • Named profiles, ready for the next spool
  • Read history when you need to look back
  • Copy and paste complete profiles as JSON
Works locally. Your data stays yours.

A quick compatibility check

Small tag.
Different possibilities.

Not every tag holds the same amount. NTAG213 fits compact filament profiles; NTAG215 and NTAG216 have room for larger datasets.

Choose the layout your printer or reader understands. More memory alone does not add ecosystem compatibility.

Requires an NFC-capable iPhone with iOS 18 or later. OpenTag3D does not fit NTAG213. Reading leaves a tag unchanged; writing replaces the filament data on the tag you choose.

What are NTAG tags, and which should I buy?

A tiny memory chip, inside an NFC sticker. NTAG is a family of NFC chips made by NXP. A finished tag includes the chip and an antenna; your iPhone reads or writes it at close range, without a battery.

A straightforward starting point: blank, writable NTAG215 stickers. NTAG215 is listed for all three formats currently supported by SpoolRFID: Anycubic ACE, Elegoo, and OpenTag3D. Choose the matching format in the app before writing.

Look for a listing that explicitly says NTAG215, 13.56 MHz, NFC Type 2, rewritable and unlocked. Buy finished stickers or discs, not bare chips, and check that their dimensions and placement suit your spool and printer reader. A tag cannot add support for a format your printer does not understand.

NTAG213 is an option for the compact Anycubic ACE and Elegoo layouts listed above. For OpenTag3D, choose NTAG215 or NTAG216; NTAG213 is too small.

Sticker placement

A good spot makes a difference.

NFC sticker on a spool flange A sticker sits near the outer edge of the spool flange. Depending on the printer, a sticker may be needed on both sides, preferably aligned on the same axis. NFC sticker
1. Place near the flange edge. The sticker usually sits near the outer edge of the spool flange. Depending on your printer, you may need two stickers—one on each side—for best compatibility. Preferably align them on the same axis through the spool.
Hold the top of the iPhone close to the NFC sticker The upper edge of the phone is beside the sticker. Start a scan or write session and hold the phone still until it completes. Top of iPhone
2. Bring the top of iPhone close.Start Read or Write in the app, then hold one tag near the top of the phone until the session finishes.

Illustrative positions, not to scale. The printer’s reader location determines where the sticker belongs.
